New generations, and above all the Gen Z made up by young people born from 1997 to 2012, are enthusiastic about the crafts and arts of old times. They are bringing back so many techniques that our grandmothers were the only ones to master in the past.

Today, crafts have become a trend in fashion, appreciating the work of artisans, and that Do It Yourself notion.

Handcrafts are becoming considerably popular, and they have an influence on this young generation. Marina Sampietro, manager at Hilos Omega, says that “we find there is an interest in knitting, crocheting and macramé. Knitting purses is now the new trend, and you can see many beautiful creations with nice fretwork and rich, attractive colours. There are several websites with tutorials that explain how to easily do this and get successful results. Our clients find innovative, spectacular ideas, and as instructions are clear and with live demos, young people can follow explanations and create items in an effective way, so they are a market target”.

Two of the yarns that are easy to work with and look very good have gained many followers among the younger generations: Omega, and Espiga. Sampietro comments, “with our Omega and Espiga nylon yarns we motivate consumers to take an interest in DIY, to make purses, jewelry and other items, fast and easy but with great results. For beginners, we always recommend starting simple, so you are sure to complete the project and never get disappointed”.

The properties of these products include colour and the manager of this well-known Mexican company states, “Colour is what lends life to a project. Both our nylon and cotton yarns are available in 80 different shades. New fashion trends propose merging a number of colours, though usually preferring those that are lively. However, classic shades are always present in our catalogues for there are so many knitters that will choose them time and again”.

This new season brings us the shaded colours by Hilos Omega that will make results look great even with basic stitches, for the yarn is versatile and beautiful, and catches the eye”.

As to DIY, Marina Sampietro concludes that knitting for beginners is “one of the easiest techniques. It helps relieve stress and depression. It is important to learn about relaxing, playful activities that help us exercise our hands and minds in a creative process that will always end up doing us so much good. We create, we can show off, and feel happy”.

The manager of this company also thinks of expert knitters: “We are so lucky in that our marketplace is diverse, and there are so many techniques and products. Hilos Omega offers superior quality, novelties, and such a variety of colours that there is sure to be one that suits you, so it’s no wonder that enthusiasts can create so many easy and beautiful items with their own hands”.
